Prehospital Trauma Life Support for First Responders (PHTLS-FR) PHTLS for First Responders (PHTLS-FR) is an 8-hour classroom course that takes the world-class trauma care content from PHTLS and delivers it in a style that is relevant to and accessible by first responders, including emergency medical responders (EMR), firefighters, rescue personnel, and law enforcement officers. | Covering life-saving interventions such as hemorrhage control and airway management, this course teaches critical trauma concepts, demonstrates skills, and walks students through potential patient scenarios. An accompanying course manual provides students with access to these important concepts long after the course is over. | ||
Students who successfully complete the course receive a certificate, a card good for 4 years, and 8 hours of CAPCE credit for eligible participants. |

ABOUT THE CLASS | |
Designed for Officers transitioning from a patrol assignment to an assignment in investigations. It will demonstrate the importance of basic investigative techniques and reinforce the importance of such techniques. It will give the student an understanding of the role the 5th Amendment plays in interviews and interrogations, providing the student the ability to navigate and obtain a court admissible statement. The students will be able to apply sound investigative techniques in documenting a crime scene and learn to provide a voice to the physical evidence recovered during the investigation. The students will learn to apply the requirements set forth in the 4th Amendment in the recovery of evidence during the crime scene investigation. Students will review case studies and are encouraged to interact with the instructor regarding investigative techniques. |

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR | |
Retired criminal investigator, George Chaix retired from a 27-year career in policing. Serving as a criminal investigator since 1996 and later in a command position serving both the Gulfport and Biloxi Police Departments. He also served in the Navy Reserve in the law enforcement career field serving as an instructor at the Military Police School and as an investigator serving as the Chief of Military Police Investigations for the Country of Kuwait. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a Minor in Forensic Science along with a Masters of Criminal Justice Administration. Mr. Chaix currently serves as an Instructor of Criminal Justice for William Carey University and is a past president of the Mississippi Division of the International Association of Identification. He also serves on the Board of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Veterans Day Parade and an adjunct Instructor for the Southern Regional Public Safety Academy. |

ABOUT THE CLASS | |
This class expands on the training an officer already received in the Standardized
Field Sobriety (SFST) Class to help the officer determine if a driver is under the influence of drugs or other substances. |

SFST Recertification will be offered at 3:00 on the first day. |

Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED is geared towards anyone with little or no medical training who needs a course completion card for their job, regulatory (e.g., OSHA), or other requirements or anyone who wants to be prepared for an emergency in any setting. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a course completion card, valid for two years. | |
